STEAM: CamVision works with tech partner to launch forward thinking education approach

At CamVision we have been working with our tech partners at Magpie Education to develop a dedicated curriculum that takes a holistic approach to the way children learn about engineering, technology and innovation.

At CamVision we have been working with our tech partners at Magpie Education to develop a dedicated curriculum that takes a holistic approach to the way children learn about engineering, technology and innovation.

In recent years, education has taken a STEM approach - focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a result, maths, science and engineering have typically been given higher levels of funding and resources in schools around the world. However, new evidence based thinking from bodies including the European Commission shows the value of incorporating a creative approach when learning technical skills. The result is a drive to incorporate the twin realms of art and science in order to foster the creative spirit that’s vital for innovation and development.

Changing the way we teach science and engineering

Dubbed STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics - the approach seeks to harness creative skills and thinking of students alongside technical ones. At CamVision we have created dedicated curricula that embrace the STEAM approach and puts it into action with another forward-thinking, holistic approach to education: Project-Based Learning.

Projects see students learn and innovate on long-term pieces of work such as learning how to code and programming robots by making it fun with initiatives such as Dash and Dot. This allows them to learn about and action the mathematics, engineering, science and creativity needed to take a project from start to finish.

Project based learning supports children in taking a project through to completion and experiencing the rewards of each part of the process along the way, as opposed to the traditional approach which builds up to a big exam at the end.

A system designed to support schools in the way they develop their teaching

Magpie Education is an EdTech developer with whom we have a long-standing, successful relationship bringing together education and technology to provide effective solutions for students in the UK and China. Their systems are used for hosting curricula and lesson plans from a variety of public and private institutions, in order to enable education providers and private individuals to access content related to STEM teaching.

We have worked with Magpie Education to develop our own version of their Learning Management System (LMS) to host our carefully designed STEAM programme, which is a complete product for schools to incorporate into their curriculum. It is currently available to schools in China, starting with our partner schools in the northeast of the country. Over the coming months it will also be rolled out to other interested parties globally.

If you are interested in incorporating CamVision’s STEAM programme at your school, contact the team for more information.
